Gearing up for a 30 day UK road trip

UK Road Trip Tips

What’s the longest drive you’ve done? My longest drive was probably 12 hours from Miami to New Orleans when I was a student and that was never fun. Driving 7 hours just to get out of the straight, flat roads in Florida is boring!

Planning my UK road trip

For the month of September I will be off on my first long haul road trip through the UK and can’t wait. I have spent a few days planning it out and have already booked my first 5 days… I plan to book a few more hotels/B&Bs but will probably wing it a few days too.

Are all of these pins a little over promising? I will definitely trim them down the more I plan, but for now this is what September looks like:

That’s right, no London. I spent 5 amazing days there in February 2012 and I want to explore something new this time.

My #ukroadtrip

Of course I will be tweeting and instagramming like no one’s business, so get ready to join me!

I have no idea what will happen and how many amazing little towns or cities I will end up seeing.

I’m looking forward to mispronouncing every place on the map, eating things I’ve never seen before, drinking grade A whiskey, getting lost often and of course driving on the other side of the road!

Thanks to Ricky from Inspired by Locals for helping me get started and to fellow blogs and tweets!

Help me make this trip amazing by leaving a tip or two! Cheers 😉

Wow that’s quite an itinerary! You’re going to my birth county of Yorkshire. Highly recommend the North Yorkshire Moors Railway out to Whitby for a visit to the abbey and have fish and chips by the sea! Whilst you’re in Liverpool try to get out to Crosby beach to see the Iron Men by Antony Gormley – everyone I know that’s been has said how incredible they are. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Edinburgh as we’ve got a trip planned there for 4 days just before Christmas. Very jealous of the Orkney part of your journey too! Sarah, @StresaTravel

Don’t get too jealous, Orkney is a nice thought, but really not sure how much ground I will cover. I have a feeling I may visit half the places just to enjoy where I will be. Every spot looks so amazing!

Thanks for the tips. I really want to check out Liverpool, so will try and squeeze in Crosby beach.

Now, the real question is rent a car the whole month or train it for half the time!?

You’ll have a blast – Oban, Orkeny, Bath, Bristol and The Cotswolds are particularly beautiful places.
The trains here can often be overcrowded so if you do train it be sure to reserve a seat in advance, it’s no fun standing up all the way to Bath – something I do often! x

Oh, thanks for the tip Annie!! I may stick to the renting a car for most of the time then, since life will be more flexible that way.

Wonderful, thanks for the tips! I’m really looking forward to Edinburgh, but I’m sure you are enjoying Perugia!

Hope you have a lovely time, can’t wait to read all about what you think of all those places. We live near London but I have to admit the Scottish Highlands are my favourite part of the UK.

Nice, thanks for the tip! I’m slowly making my way north, looking forward to desolation and good whiskey.
