Best Burger Joints in Florence

The best burgers in Florence

Benvenuti a Burgher-landia!

So, you’re in the mood for a juicy American style burger huh? The bistecca fiorentina isn’t cutting it for you anymore?

I’ve been on a burger hunt with my husband for a while and wanted to share our intense research with you hungry readers. Here’s my ongoing list ending with the grand mamma burger at the finale.

Best Burgers in Florence

4. Lungarno 23

Lungarno 23, chianina burgers in Florence

Ivo in the back kept trying to steal my fries. 🙁

I recommend this place more for the atmosphere, but they do have burgers which is not a commonality here in Florence. Sometimes you gotta get what you can get. The time I ate here was with friends (read Gillian’s review!), so I had a great time and enjoyed the views and the walk to and from dinner since it’s on the river…which explains the name of the place.

The burgers are made from Chianina meat, which is the oldest breed of cattle in the world and well-known for its high quality and nutritional value. It was decent, perfectly cooked medium rare and the fries were AMAZING. The ambiance didn’t feel like a burger joint, since it’s no greasy spoon.

Go with a hot date and stay for the fries, don’t forget to top your Chianina off with truffles!

3. Mostodolce

Their burgers kinda looked like this! Photo by Mostodolce.it

This colorful brew pub makes the list for their burgers but also their beer!! I met up with a brilliant foodie blogger and have since frequented with friends because of their beer and heavy bar food.

The burgers are good, big and juicy. Don’t forget their local beer on tap.

Go if you’re a student or if you want to feel young again!

2. Il Panino Tondo

Check out that menu!

Amazing. I have never had a burger and thought to myself “holy god, this piece of meat is perfectly salted!” It’s a weird thought, but seriously the patties are perfectly salted and even better…the bread is great. Buns are important!

Go crazy with the menu. Everything is delicious and the meat tends to be cooked according to the temperature you prefer. The only drawback is that if you want a thick juicy burger you’ll have to settle for a double patty, each patty being about 3/4in thick. Still great when rare!

Go for the buns and stay for the unconventional toppings!

1. Il Principe delle Delizie

Il Principe, Best Burger in Florence

Hole in the walls always win!

Oh ya. This humburgheria should actually be called Il Rei or Dio because Il Principe just doesn’t give it justice.

Remember Fuddruckers? They had one in Miami and there seems to be many across the States. Well, it reminds me of that…a little place in heaven where you can decide the grams of your burger and in this case even they type of meat.

You get to check a list on a little paper of all the decadent toppings you want. For example, gorge on a rare Argentinian Angus burger topped with um let’s say gorgonzola or bacon…wait, grilled zucchini and fontina…just have a look at Il Principe’s menu for yourself. Please don’t drool on your screen.

Go after you’ve spent 100€ on sushi and are still hungry!

Any that perk you up? What burger joint should I try next?

P.S. If you want to try something a bit different, order the Sushi del Chianti at Club House, it’s the best thing on their menu…besides their cheesecake! AND I also recommend this two full day foodie list to eat like a true Florentine!

I don’t eat meat but I love a good veggie burger, although they’re definitely not as easy to find!

I looove veggie burgers and funny thing is that sometimes they are just as high in calories as a meat burger. But it’s all good and tasty.

In Colorado I was obsessed with Amy’s http://www.amys.com/products/product-categories/veggie-burgers. Have you tried these by chance?

Yes when in LA and they’re great. Sadly they don’t have them in the UK but we have something similar 🙂

Yahooo, you will eat well then! I recommend resorting to burgers after you eat all the typical Florentine goodies like in the 2 day food porn guide you tweeted. One friend said she wasn’t into Il Principe mainly because the inside is unattractive and she didn’t like the bread, BUT it is a hole in the wall, which I mentioned, so be prepared. Let me know where you end up eating!

The hole in the wall places are usually the best! My husband was so happy to see that he wouldn’t have to resort to going to a McDonald’s in Italy….which, he has unfortunately done before. I showed him the photos from the Food Porn post, and when he saw the bistecca fiorentina at Il Fiesolano, he said, I hope you know how to say “well done” in Italian cuz I’m not eating raw steak!” Can you tell he has food issues??!! LOL!

Oh my, well maybe you can get a bistecca for ONE! He can watch you eat it. I’m glad you both saw the post because I’ve seen tourists complain on TripAdvisor about the steak, when in fact that is how it is served. It’s not the restaurants fault it’s how the culture eats it, so better to know now before you spend 50€ on a bloody steak.

Yes, please do NOT go to McDonalds. They are expensive for the poor quality meat that they serve. If you guys find yourselves starving close to the station then head to Mostodolce as it is right around the corner! Let me know what you think! Safe travels and come hungry!

[…] Sorry to break it to you, but there are no eggs here especially for colazione, breakfast. I’m NOT going to send you to The Diner where you can eat food that tastes better in ‘Murica anyways. No. Unless you HAVE to have a burger in Florence. […]

Thank you for the suggestions! I’m bringing my 8 year old son to Firenze next month. We’re from Indiana, so of course he’s a big fan of meat and potatoes. We will definitely give one or more of these places a try!

Great, he’ll love it then! There’s nothing too out of the norm for kids at these places. I also recommend checking my recent gelato article, he’ll love that too! 🙂

It’s located on a cute street. I haven’t heard good reviews about it, but glad to read a positive one. I may check it out, thanks!
